The Same and the Other

On Thursday, November 17th, Pocko was delighted to present the new exhibition the Same and the Other, featuring video projections and photo scrolls by Petulia Mattioli, live soundtrack by Christopher Chaplin and Eraldo Bernocchi. The exhibition explores the relationship of the artist’s body to time, knowledge and memory.

As a map, the body appears to alternate between presence and absence, marked in sections and revealed in details. “Each segment is a place where I may return”.

The sound piece by Eraldo and Christopher underlines the artist’s research, bringing their melodic ambiental metamorphosis in parallel with Petulia’s work. The two artists employ objects and synths to produce an expansive soundscape – placing the viewer and listener in a reflective space, harmonious with the visual installations.

“For I am I: ergo, the truth of myself; my own sphinx, conflict, chaos, vortex – asymmetric to all rhythms, oblique to all paths. I am the prism between black and white: my own unison in duality.”

– Austin Osman Spare

“Deep inner “liquid light” that I observe, catch and try to show in my work through performance and video installation.
I love to capture emotions often meshed with knowledge and memory, and put them in relation with the audience”.

– Petulia Mattioli
