BORN TO SAIL, FORCED TO DOCK.
For Milan Design Week 2025, artist and designer Marco Oggian brings his unmistakable visual language to North Sails, the pioneering brand in technical and sustainable clothing, for an extraordinary collaboration.
The collaboration gave life to a distinctive capsule collection that reimagines North Sails' most iconic pieces through Marco Oggian's artistic language. The collection features timeless essentials including the signature North Sails Sailor Jacket, a sweatshirt, a men’s bathing suit, a t-shirt and a cap, each piece enhanced with the artist's distinctive visual elements while maintaining the brand's commitment to technical excellence and sustainability.
The collection in accompanied by a maxi installation which took place in Milan, near the modern City Life district, open to the public: a monumental inflatable sculpture reimagining the classic paper boat, crafted entirely from recycled nylon used for spinnakers. Standing approximately 8 meters tall and 10 meters long, the structure celebrates the allure of sailing and great voyages, conveying to the audience the energy and emotion of the open sea through the eyes of a child. The panels of the boat explain the technology that makes sailing an incredible sport—or way of life. A section of the surface showcases how the sails are made, highlighting the innovation and research behind materials capable of withstanding the most extreme conditions. Translucent panels and graphic details reveal the nylon's texture and explain why these sails are essential for those who brave the ocean.
“When I work on a project, I often let the child inside me guide me. For this collection with North Sails, I drew on primal emotions, transforming them into simple, direct languages. I converted nautical imagery into essential shapes that evoke sailing ships and immediate phrases that take us back to the sea, the wind and the freedom of sailing”.
