Jules Julien

The Blue Series

Interview by Pocko

Jules Julien has been busy creating a new solo show for the Espaï Tactel Gallery in Valencia. Here, we reveal a few select images from the show, and also catch up with Jules about the meanings behind his creations. Jules tells us that “the general idea for the exhibition was to give power to a colour, or an object. It is about relating memories linked with a colour using texts in a book, or with pictures. Like when an object, a colour or a smell can take you somewhere in your memories.” In his exhibition, Jules offers the viewer the opportunity to imagine for themselves what these stories are – like mysterious keys. Jules’ exhibition will run from the 15th November until the end of December at the Espaï Tactel Gallery in Valencia.

The exhibition in Jules’ own words: “‘Blue Series – a romantic Cluedo’ confronts memories from the artist to our own. Dispatching stories, characters, objects and places in a random order, he presents his own mental images in a mirror of ours. Symmetry of reflection is applied in each piece, wiping out the subject to profit symbol. Narcissism of a magpie drawn by the shininess of a mirror – the decline of iris liquefying into death – An orgy of sweets and stars until nausea – so many hidden scenes behind those faces and objects isolated on a night background. Order and disorder, it is a stared flashback, a kaleidoscopic story where ‘Colonel Mustard’ is hiding with a gun in a forgotten room of the mansion”.
